Uphaar 2007
Update
On May 19th 2007, the CRY America Seattle Action Center organized its annual charity dinner Uphaar 2007 at the Newcastle Golf Club in Newcastle, WA. The event was attended by over 230 prominent members of the Western Washington community.
The event was kicked off by an art exhibition and sale showcasing artwork by local artists, the proceeds of which were donated to CRY America.
The keynote address was delivered by Shubhra Chatterji, Director of Vikramshila (http://www.vikramshila.org), a CRY America-supported non-profit organization that seeks to improve the state of education, particularly in the underprivileged sections of society. In her speech, Ms. Chatterji chronicled the growth of Vikramshila over the past twenty years and the vital part CRY America has played in facilitating its evolution from a fledgling grass-roots organization to a formidable catalyst for social change.
Outlining the challenges faced by children in developing economies such as India’s, Pradeep Singh, CEO and MD, Aditi Technologies highlighted the accomplishments of CRY (CRY America's partner in India) in transforming the lives of more than 1.5 million children over the past 28 years. He appealed to the audience to join the child rights movement. The evening culminated with dance performances by danseuse Mrina Natarajan and children's ensemble Bollywood Nasha, followed by Bollywood music played by DJ Aanshul.
With the support of Mr. Singh, event sponsor Intelius and other prominent attendees, CRY raised over $180,000, funds, that will be used to bring about lasting change in the lives of children.
