Microsoft Giving Campaign
Microsoft organized its annual Giving Campaign from October 1st - 26th, 2007. This campaign is a company-wide drive to encourage employees to contribute to their community in the form of time, money and hope. CRY America Seattle action center organized several events in that time-frame geared towards raising awareness about CRY America in the Microsoft community.
CRY America’s campaign was kicked off by a poker tournament held on the 4th of October, 2007. Over 50 players took part in this exciting event which saw over $5000 being raised. The winner of this tournament advanced to the Microsoft annual tournament which ensured high participation from poker enthusiasts within the company. CRY America partnered with Tasveer to screen ‘Kamli – My Daughter’ at the 4th Independent South Asian Film Festival in Seattle on the 5th of October, 2007. Ingrid Srinath, the CEO of CRY India participated in an engaging post-film discussion with the film’s producer and members of the audience about the theme of the film (female infanticide and the plight of the nomadic Lambada community). The film was screened again on the Microsoft campus on the 8th of October with Microsoft employees in attendance. Ingrid also met with Microsoft employees and donors at a lunch-time ‘meet and greet’ on campus.
On October 17th, 2007, CRY America volunteer Arun Buduri performed solo in a Microsoft cafeteria, singing non-stop for a spectacular 99 minutes in a unique event that helped raise over $4000 for CRY America. CRY America also participated in various division-specific non-profit fairs, helping raise awareness about the cause of child rights.
CRY America’s Giving Campaign commenced with Dandia, held on October 27th, 2007 at the Inglewood High School in Sammamish. Over 500 people attended this event. Dancing to contemporary Bollywood and traditional Dandia tunes, they helped raise over $6000. Through these events, volunteers pitched the message of child rights to Microsoft employees and their families, encouraging them to contribute to CRY America through their donations or by volunteering time.
