Philadelphia Action Center
Action Center Name: CRY America Philadelphia
Background
The Philadelphia Action Center was started in September 2003. In this initial phase it has focused on establishing alliances with universities and local residents. This action center has formed an alliance with the Wharton School Indian Students Association which has enabled them to reach a wide audience of individuals who are concerned about the situation of underprivileged Indian children.
On December 4, 2003, Philadelphia AC in partnership with the Wharton Indian Students Association (WISA) organized a gala charity banquet which was attended by more than 120 people. The catering was done free of charge by Cafe Spice, a well known Indian restaurant. The event was used as a platform to generate awareness on serious issues. They managed to raise substantial funds through the event.
CRY America Philadelphia has also organized several popular movie nights to raise funds.
In addition, they have established an alliance with Wharton India Economic Forum (WIEF), the world's largest annual Indian business conference outside India wherein they receive a percentage of each admission ticket. This AC is in the process of involving other universities and institutions in the Philadelphia area to support them.
