Hurricane Katrina Relief and Rebuilding Efforts
CRY America volunteers, donors, staff and supporters deeply mourn the loss of life and the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina in the states of Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi and Alabama. Thousands of people have died and there has been wide scale destruction due to this disaster. The impact of this on children will be devastating with no schools, no medical facilities, loss of family members and loss of security.
CRY America has made a grant of $20,000 towards Hurricane Katrina relief & rebuilding efforts. This grant is given to Save the Children specifically aimed at addressing the needs of children who are always the most vulnerable in situations like this. Their rights are violated as disasters have a long term impact on their education, health and overall security.
Many of you have contacted us seeking to provide help. We are in touch with organizations like Baton Rouge Foundation to ascertain details of their relief and rehabilitation efforts and the support they would require. CRY America believes that specialized agencies are far better skilled at handling disaster relief efforts in the USA. We do request you to contact these agencies, if you would like to make a donation. Most agencies working on disaster relief efforts would prefer cash donations at this time as this can be easily deployed to areas of critical need. Some recommended organizations are given below:
- Save the Children
- The America Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund
- The United Way Hurricane Katrina Response Fund
