Vol 22. July 2012

Dear ,

As CRY America celebrates its 10th year anniversary, the first half year has been action-packed with a number of awareness and fundraising events. The CRY Dinners in New York and Seattle in May 2012 were a success, attended by 230 people and raised over $220,000. The events were attended by prominent personalities - Bobby Ghosh, Sree Srinivasan, Maneet Chauhan, Anu and Naveen Jain, Akthar and Alka Badshah, Leena and Sunil Shah.
Our online fundraising campaign 'Stay in School' raised close to $45,000 which will ensure 834 girls across 53 villages will have access to quality education for a year. There is lot more to come...we have launched our first online auction - your chance to bid for some great items while you ensure change for children. Our popular annual event, CRY Walk for Child Rights 2012 is being organized by our volunteer chapters across 20 cities from July to October this year. Do keep tuned to know more about happenings in your city.

With best wishes,

Shefali Sunderlal

Project Story

In pursuit of education

Salam Romita Devi is the eldest of three brothers and sisters. At just 11 years of age, she doesn't have a minute to spare. She helps her father fish, by night. And by day, she goes to school. A school that has just two classrooms, five teachers and no midday meals or drinking water. No playground or toilet for girls either. But Romita continues, and this is one of the biggest achievements of her life. Today, she is an active member of the children's club at Sendra, and has participated in a several short play to advocate child rights. She attributes her perseverance and motivation to SDC's school enrollment campaigns and is glad she was able to realize her true potential.

Your support in furthering our quest for child rights reaches children like Romita, transforming them into able and independent human beings who fight the odds and emerge successful.
CRY America supported Project Sustainable Development Center (SDC) works in villages around the Loktak Lake, Bishnupur, Senapati and Churachandpur Districts in Manipur to rebuild marginalized communities that face abject poverty and are removed from developmental activities.

Your support helps us further SDC's efforts to solve key issues of education, health care, and foster a sense of self-reliance in the community. Thanks to you, SDC is able to restore a child friendly society in Manipur today.
