CRY America and SATHEE have worked to create awareness about child rights and encourage children to stand up for what is right. By empowering them to question the wrongs they faced, children were given a voice. Years of tackling the root causes that come in the way of child rights has changed in the way children now live, play and grow.
Formation of Children’s Group’s and Parliaments led to campaigns where children sought schools closer to their homes and demanded better facilities that help them stay in school.
By providing the support and infrastructure to make sure that nothing stops a school from functioning, many children got their right to free, compulsory and quality education.
Sustained efforts in providing better facilities ensured an 80% cut in the dropout rate. With more schools, better teaching and constant efforts to keep this going, 98 villages have seen a 100% enrolment in primary schools.
With the streamlining of health centers, subcenters and awareness building initiatives that kept people informed about health, sanitation and nutrition, child health became a primary focus.
With 100% registration of births, health centers are able to monitor and track the growth, nutrition and development of children in the area.
Sessions on health, nutrition and hygiene have been conducted. In addition, public health centers, sub-centers and ICDS centers have been activated to streamline health facilities for everyone.
By sensitizing people about their rights communities were mobilized and empowered to seek the right to education and development.
Bal Melas or Children’s Gatherings help facilitate interaction and networking amongst children of different areas. By sharing their stories with each other, they are more sensitized towards the importance of education.
The development of Children’s Groups and Parliaments now have the right momentum to forge ahead with their own movement for child rights.
