As many of you know I work on a full time basis with CRY America. I am passionate about my organization because I have been inspired by the steadfast commitment of its employees, donors and volunteers, and I have been moved by the unwavering efforts of grassroots level workers who operate in the most challenging of environments. Most of all, I am a dedicated member of the CRY family because I know that my organization makes a long-term and sustainable difference in the lives of underprivileged children in India.
CRY has enhanced the lives of over 1.5 million children by creating effective grassroots change movements in India that empower marginalized communities to build sustainable futures for their children. The future, however, for most of India’s underprivileged children continues to look bleak. The statistics are mind-numbing: 50% of India’s children aged 6-14 years do not attend school; India is home to 17 million child laborers, the highest number in the world, working under hazardous, exploitative and abusive conditions; 1.9 million children die before they turn 5 mostly from preventable causes - respiratory infections, diarrhea; 1 out of 6 girl children will not live to see her 15th birthday.
So on August 29, 2009 I will walk for children at the CRY Walk event at Riverside Park in New York. I will walk not only as an employee of CRY but as a person who truly believes that every child has a right to live, to learn, to play, to a childhood. And I will take action for children, because quite simply - I can.
I would be so grateful if you could support my participation in the event by making a contribution on my fundraising page. My goal is $500, and any amount that you contribute will make a real difference. Please partner with me and be an integral part of CRY America’s movement for children.
