Many say, children are pure, they are the image of God. I do not believe that! I believe that children are the image of what we enable them to be.
Imagine a mall in Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bangalore or any other upscale town in India. You would find little children, dressed in choicest of clothes with their parents fawning on them, eager to fulfill their each and every wish. Imagine a five star school in Delhi where parents pay upwards of 50,000 rupees to provide their child with the best of opportunities, so that they can be part of the wonderous growth story that is India.
Now imagine the front gate of that same mall or school, where a little boy in his tattered dusty clothes, with his grimy hands and runny nose, is begging the parents who have come to pick up young scions. Imagine a little girl on a busy intersection, holding her little brother in her arms as she runs from car to car asking for a rupee or two!
The 2009 CRY Walk is an attempt to give a chance to that young boy or girl, whom nobody cares about, who is just some static or a minor inconvenience in our perfect little world.
I Walk for the right of each and every child to dream of making a difference in the world and to enable them to grow up and make that difference.
In India, $18 provides for a year of elementary education. I hope to raise $1000 and with your help provide education to 55 young minds so that they can one day have the same privileges as you and me.
